Burger Battle Returns With New Leadership
The 13th annual Delaware Burger Battle returns to Rockford Park on Saturday, Aug. 29, bringing together Delaware-area chefs for the popular burger showdown and charity fundraiser. The all-volunteer event features burger tastings judged by both attendees and a panel of “DElebrity” judges, with proceeds benefiting the Food Bank of Delaware and the Delaware Restaurant Foundation. More than $166,000 has been raised for charity through Delaware Food Battles events.
This year also marks new leadership for the event, as founder JulieAnne Cross steps back and Rachel Painter takes the lead. Tickets go on sale June 1, and organizers encourage fans to act quickly after last year’s event sold out in eight hours.

Mad Pretzels Set To Twist Up The Local Food Scene
The team behind Nick’s Pizza Parlor & Bar is preparing to launch MAD Pretzels, a new standalone pretzel shop from Nick Vouras and David and Joanne Govatos. Expected to open in June near Prices Corner at 1903 Newport Gap Pike, the concept blends the classic Philadelphia soft pretzel shape with the flavor and texture of traditional German-style pretzels.
The menu will feature classic soft pretzels alongside creative variations like pretzel pizzas, sandwiches, rolls, buns, and specialty flavors including Cooper Sharp long hot and prosciutto bread pretzels. Until the shop opens, customers can try items at Nick’s Pizza and through local collaborations. The owners say the dedicated storefront is inspired both by growing demand and a desire to bring a true Philly-style pretzel shop to the area.
